Today was our last ride in Pons. We opted for a shorter ride starting from the house. Since this is the birthplace of Cognac it seemed symbolic to head in that direction, even if we did not intend to actually cross the city limits.
| We got close enough to Cognac to take a photo of this sign. This was far enough so we reversed course along the same route. It was a lovely meandering path through the fields along paved farm roads. They don't pave these paths for us but probably to avoid having the heavy equipment make a mucky muddy mess. Few cars come this way but harvest must be upon us since there were many farm vehicles moving about. |
| Vines in full fruit awaiting the picker. |
| Some bunches have passed their prime but somehow get mixed in with the not too ripe grapes. Wonder how they get the bad ones separated from the good ones but guess Cognac drinkers are less discriminating. |
| It is always best to find what you want when you want it. It was time for a bread break and what better place to rest than a covered bus shelter. The light drizzle we encountered at the turn around gave way to overcast skies but no more precipitation. Dodged another rain cloud. |
| The overcast was breaking up so good contrasting light for a last look at the region's best vintage. |
| Partial sun makes for an even better view. |
| Almost home but perfect for a coffee and pastry at our local Boulangerie. The deck overlooks the water so we can watch the ducks watching us. This is the second visit today since we picked up a seeded baguette on our way out of town this morning. One more visit later today along the garden path for our dinner baguette. Seeded of course. |
Kim savors our pastry while I keep an eye on our bikes. I can multitask - eat, drink, and watch at the same time.
Our afternoon outing is the back way to the Boulangerie for our final baguette of the day. Man can not live by bread alone but it might be a wonderful way to die.
Leaving our place to a voyage into the unknown. |
| First gate into the world beyond. |
| I know I can do it. Just focus, focus, and keep my eyes on the other side. |
| Into the magical path and world beyond. |
| Bridge over ???? waters. |
| Walking the plank is easy if you have good balance. Original crossing was twice as wide but the remnants are sitting in the water below. |
| Success! Last visit of the day with bread in hand. Passing through our gates as conquering heroes. |
